Reopen Tennis

Here is a basic summary of our efforts so far:

Recent correspondense with Governement of Alberta and Partners
Feb 11th APRA Town Hall w/SPAR

  • We presented 5 questions, unfortunately none were answered.  Click here to see our questions.

Feb 4th email:

  • Follow up to Minister Schweitzer, Minister of Health, and Premier Jason Kenney:
    “have you considered using a similar occupancy model that you use with retail stores for sports organizations? Essentially you base your allowances on a baseline surface area. We believe this would be an effective model for sports like tennis that have natural physical distancing”
  • Response:  NONE

Feb 3rd Town Hall:

  • ​​We were able to present 2 questions directly to Minister Schweitzer, Premier Kenney and CMOH Dr. Deena Hinshaw.  Click here for transcript of those questions and response.  No other questions from the tennis community were presented.

​​Feb 2nd APRA Town Hall w/SPAR:

  • We presented 3 questions, unfortunately no tennis-related questions were responded to.  Click here for questions that were presented from the tennis community.

​Jan 27th, email:

  • Addressed to:  Minister Schweitzer, Minister Shandro, Premier Jason Kenney and CMOH
  • Re:  Respectful dialogue comments from CMOH, tennis is safe, seniors Juniors and people need to play – snow and ice make it hazardess for many people, especially seniors, to be active. 
  • Response: NONE

  • Follow up to Jan 6th email and exemption request

Jan 12th BizConnect email:

  • Request for exemption
  • Follow up emails on Jan 15th, 19th, & 21st
  • Jan 22nd, BizConnect responds “we have to forward your request to another department”
  • Feb 5th, followed up again​

​Jan 6th email:

  • Addressed to Minister Schweitzer and Minister Shandro
  • Requesting permission to resume business on Jan 1th, sharing points about the safety of tennis and requesting to be exempt from further restricitions. 
  • Response:  NONE

Dec 3rd email:

  • Addressed to:  Minster Schweitzer
  • Re: appreciation for Dec 1st Town Hall, Description of our business and programs, explain the difficulty from the orders in November – having to reinvent our business.
  • Response:  NONE

​Dec 1st, town hall:

  • The Tennis Academy was able to present 3 questions directly to MInister Schweitzer and CMOH.  Click here for transcripts of our questions and the response.  No other questions from the tennis community were presented.

​Nov 25th, Exemption request letter sent

  • All Indoor member clubs collaberted with Danny Dacosta at Osten and Victor to compose an exemption request letter.
  • Since the Province prefers to liase with Provincial sport organizations the letter was sent by Tennis Alberta

Nov 24th

  • More Provincial Restrictions announced for sport

Nov 12th

  • Provincial announcement:  A 2-week implementation of new safety measure effective Nov 13th (the next day) “all Team Sport and group Fitness are cancelled for 2 weeks”,
